The A.L.P.O. Gallery Search Tool (Proof of Concept)

In the spring of 2020 I voluntered to be an assistant coordinator for the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers (ALPO). My primary duty has been uploading the images and sketches submitted from observers across the globe to the ALPO website gallery.

At that time the primary method of capturing information about the image was by a file naming convention. However, while this provides a hint as to what the image may contain, many details were not available until opening the image to check for any metadata added by the author. And the images could not be searched.

Soon after taking up the reins I set up a Mongo document database and began to submit a record for each submission. This portion of our family website is a proof of concept to demonstrate how this database could help users find observations of interest. Below you'll find links to search forms that have been implemented so far. If you have any comments please let me know - my contact information can be found on the ALPO Contacts page.
