Day 9
Jasper and the Athabasca Falls

July 14th -we decide to
explore the Jasper area a little. In the morning there was a trail a little west of the town that we
decided to hike. The region continues to impress at every turn, offering colorful native plants,
wildlife, and vistas of pristine lakes along the way.

In the afternoon we went to the Athabasca Falls. The roar of the water plummeting over the rocks reached
our ears long before we beheld the gorgeous rainbow floating in the mist rising from the gorge. The
facility had a boardwalk in place that allowed visitors to view the river's approach to the rocks,
and then step down to obtain a better view of the powerful torrents of water.
